Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing fresh sushi ingredients, including fish, rice, vegetables, and garnishes, following established recipes and safety standards
- Learn proper knife techniques for slicing fish and vegetables with precision and care
- Support the team in assembling sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes with attention to presentation and quality
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, adhering to food safety protocols at all times
- Participate in menu planning discussions to understand ingredient selection and dish development
- Follow instructions from senior chefs to ensure consistency in food preparation and service
- Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting kitchen operations during busy service hours
Requirements
- Passion for culinary arts with an interest in Japanese cuisine and sushi making
- Prior experience or exposure to food preparation, cooking, or restaurant environments is preferred but not required
- Strong knife skills or willingness to learn proper techniques under supervision
- Knowledge of food safety standards and handling procedures
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work efficiently in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and hygiene
- Previous experience in dietary department or dietary aide roles is a plus but not mandatory
