Position Summary
This senior-level role is responsible for managing complex litigation support tasks with a high degree of accuracy, independence, confidentiality, and follow-through.
The ideal candidate has strong civil litigation experience, excellent discovery and deadline-management skills, and the ability to support attorneys from case filing through resolution, including mediation, arbitration, settlement preparation, and trial preparation.
This is a remote position. California-based candidates are preferred, but candidates outside California may be considered for the right fit, subject to the firm’s ability to employ in the candidate’s state.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support attorneys with plaintiff-side personal injury litigation matters from filing through resolution.
- Draft, format, file, and serve pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, and other litigation documents under attorney supervision.
- Independently track and manage litigation deadlines, discovery deadlines, hearing dates, filing dates, and internal case milestones.
- Prepare, organize, and manage discovery requests, discovery responses, document productions, medical records, bills, liens, exhibits, and case evidence.
- Assist with mediation, arbitration, settlement preparation, trial preparation, exhibit organization, witness coordination, and attorney preparation.
- Identify missing information, deadline risks, case issues, and follow-up needs; escalate concerns appropriately and promptly.
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, medical providers, experts, vendors, and internal team members.
- Maintain complete and accurate case notes, documents, tasks, deadlines, and status updates in the firm’s case management system.
- Help maintain strong file organization, case progression, and litigation team accountability.
- Assist with training, onboarding, and knowledge-sharing for litigation team members as needed, including process guidance, case management best practices, and litigation workflow support.
- Protect confidential client, firm, employee, and case information.
- Follow all firm procedures for timekeeping, overtime approval, meal/rest periods, remote work, document handling, and information security.
- Perform other litigation support duties as assigned, consistent with the role’s classification, experience level, and business needs.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of civil litigation paralegal experience.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures, deadlines, pleadings, discovery, filing/service requirements, and case organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage litigation tasks independently with limited hand-holding.
- Strong drafting, proofreading, calendaring, and deadline-management skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to produce polished, accurate work under time-sensitive conditions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with clients and external parties professionally and within role boundaries.
- Proficiency with Adobe/Acrobat, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and legal case management systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while remaining responsive, organized, and accountable.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must meet applicable paralegal qualification requirements for the jurisdiction in which work is performed and/or matters are handled.
Preferred Qualifications
- California-based candidate.
- Plaintiff-side personal injury litigation experience.
- California civil litigation experience.
- Experience with SmartAdvocate or similar case management software.
- Experience supporting mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.
- Familiarity with medical records, billing records, liens, experts, and damages documentation in personal injury matters.
Scope of Role
The Litigation Paralegal III works under attorney supervision. This role does not provide legal advice, represent clients in court, set legal strategy, establish legal fees, or independently select or recommend legal documents to clients.
Work Environment and Expectations
This is a full-time remote role. Because this position is hourly and non-exempt, the employee must accurately record all time worked, obtain advance approval before working overtime, follow applicable meal and rest period requirements, and avoid off-the-clock work.
The role requires frequent computer work, phone/video communication, document review, deadline tracking, and handling confidential legal information. The employee must maintain a secure remote work environment. Occasional travel for meetings, training, case preparation, trial preparation, or other business needs may be required with advance notice. Pay: $38.00 - $46.00 per hour
