About: In The Image has been serving the Grand Rapids Community for over 30 years, working to meet the basic needs of our community members at no cost and with low-barrier access. At In The Image, we believe every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the support to move forward. Through our free store and other programs, we serve individuals and families experiencing hardship—offering not just essentials, but hope and a pathway toward stability.
In The Image seeks its next leader to continue to build on the progress, growth, and forward momentum the team has built. The Executive Director is the organization's primary leader and is responsible for advancing its mission, strengthening community impact, ensuring financial sustainability, and overseeing day-to-day operations. Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and the individuals and families we serve, the Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across all areas of the organization.
Duties
Mission and Organizational Leadership / Strategic Planning
- Assure that In The Image has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, ensuring consistent and timely progress.
- Provide strategic leadership to guide the organization’s mission, vision, and operational goals.
- Recruitment, retain, and release personnel, as deemed appropriate.
- Ensure that job descriptions are up to date, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound and legal human resource practices are in place.
- See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for success, is in place.
- Encourage and organize staff and volunteer development and education.
- Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of talented people.
- Oversee program development and ensure alignment with community needs and organizational objectives
- Lead efforts in program evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
Fundraising & Financial Sustainability
- Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
- Develop and manage all fundraising plans for In The Image.
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work, setting yearly fundraising goals, including at events.
- Work with Operations Director, Budget Committee, Accounting Coordinator, and the Board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
- Assess fundraising successes and challenges, identify adjustments in response.
- Understand and apply fundraising best practices.
- Demonstrated capacity for grant writing, execution and reporting.
Community Engagement, Communications, Partnerships
- Establish and maintain sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations, promoting corporate relationships.
- Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
- Publicize the activities of In The Image, its programs, and goals, as well as maintain social media and website platforms.
- Represent In The Image through speaking engagements, media appearances, and other public engagement opportunities.
Board Relations & Governance
- See that the Board is kept fully informed on the status of the organization and all important influencing factors.
- Jointly, with the Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Must have 5+ years of proven fundraising experience.
- Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
- Proven leadership experience in social services administration or related fields
- Strong relationship management skills with diverse community stakeholders
- Demonstrated administrative experience including budgeting, compliance, and program management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and media relations.
- Strong conflict resolution and decision making skills.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
