JOB Under general supervision, performs electrical work requiring an intermediate level of skill. Work involves inspection, repair, maintenance and installation of all types for electric substation and switchyards equipment and machinery.
Because the Authority's primary responsibility is to maintain twenty-four (24) hours service to its customers, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and to accept overtime on short notice, during emergency situations, or unusual conditions.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Rebuilds and repairs equipment such as electrical accessories, fans, transformers, vacuum, SF6, oil and air circuit breakers (high and low voltage), insulation and maintenance of air conditioners, air heaters, motors, generators, exciters, circuit breakers, low voltage switches, back-up DC Systems, grounding system, underground power cables (high and low voltage), communication cables, fiber cables, SCADA System and similar equipment

Inspects, repairs, replaces and sets up electrical machinery and equipment

Maintains equipment, tools, vehicles and work area in a clean and orderly condition

Make substation check on electrical equipment and substation indoor and outdoor switchgear, transformer and other apparatus to ascertain proper operation

Performs repairs as necessary on electrical equipment and fills out the repair forms in detail and written reports

Performs building electrical inspection and maintenance work such as installing conduits, install and repair receptacles, switches, breakers, wiring, replaces and installs light bulbs, defective light fixtures, conduit wiring, and surveillance cameras equipment. Paint equipment and structures as required.

Troubleshoots electrical problems to determine the source of the problem and completes needed repair work under supervision of a 1st class electrician and engineering technician II

Tests defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction or failure using voltmeters, ammeters or related testing equipment

Cleans and repairs brushes, commutators, winding and bearings of generators and motors converters

Checks batteries and adds water when needed; repairs control switches and other electrical and electronic controls

Interprets wiring diagrams to trace and connect numerous wires carrying current and voltage for independent functions
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION High school diploma including or supplemented by courses in the electrical trades and two years of experience in power plant electrical maintenance work.
