About the Club:
Founded in 1925, Columbia Edgewater has been part of Portland's golf landscape for almost a century. Our members share an unbridled love of the game and throughout the decades we have seen many of them develop into players who excel at the local, regional and national level. Our club serves as a place where families can spend time together and enjoy the company of other member families as they learn and embrace the game of golf.
Originally established as Columbia Country Club. Arthur Vernon ("A.V.") Macan was selected to design the course, which opened on July 11, 1925, and was the seventh 18-hole course in Portland, Oregon. Macan was the premiere designer of the time in the Northwest, renovating or designing over 60 courses in his lifetime. Other courses designed by Macan include Seattle Golf Club, Shaughnessy Golf Club, Manito Golf Club, California Golf Club of San Francisco, Inglewood Golf Club, Overlake Golf and Country Club and Marine Drive Golf Club.
Position Description:
Lifeguards will be responsible for implementing all water safety policies and procedures, along with supervising members and guests around the swimming pool. Conducts swimming lessons in a safe and responsible manner. Works directly with the Pool Management to ensure cleanliness and orderly function of the pool and its facilities.
WORK PERFORMED:
- Operates automatic pool sweep, skims bugs and other debris from the surface to prepare pool for daily use.
- Maintains proper chemical balance in pool and maintains mechanical equipment in coordination with the club’s maintenance department.
- Always supervises and observes swimmers to ensure their safety.
- Assists in organizing swimming lessons for members as directed by supervisor.
- Employs only those methods and teaching techniques outlined / approved by the Red Cross.
- Keeps attendance records of members’ children / grandchildren attending lessons.
- Charges members for all lessons.
- Administers to minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises of swimmers.
- Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items.
- Reports all complaints, emergencies, hazards or faulty equipment to direct supervisor or maintenance department.
- Enforces club rules of safety and conduct.
- Helps maintain amenities in and cleanliness of changing rooms, bathrooms, and showers.
- Straightens the pool area, pool office, and pool locker rooms at the end of the day.
- Maintains all necessary records determined by direct supervisor.
- Maintains a courteous, polite and helpful relationship with all members and guests.

Experience / Qualifications:
Including, but not limited to, the following:
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- Previous applicable lifeguarding experience
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work will be performed during weekends and holidays, early mornings to evenings, as business and responsibilities demand.
- Lift, reach, bend, twist, push, pull, squat, grasp and use arm-hand coordination on a consistent basis
- Have the stamina to stand on feet for lengthy periods of time
Compensation and Benefits:
The Club will provide a compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to:
- Competitive wage of $18.50 per hour
- Meals while working at club per Club policy
- Employee golfing privileges on Mondays
