Why does the job exist?
The Data Warehouse Support Engineer is needed to ensure a robust and secure Student and Teacher data warehouse as the primary mission critical data repository for the Public Education Department. The Data Warehouse Support Engineer will maintain and modernize the existing data system used for federal reporting, program decision-making and to meet state legislative data submission requirements for NM School Districts and Charter schools. The Public Education Department utilizes a new Student and Teacher data collection system, Ed-Fi is an open standard governed by a community of school districts, states and vendors across the country that requires support and modifications to maintain new requirements from state and federal stakeholders. The Data Warehouse Support Engineer will gather business requirements, identify technical requirements, assess proposed solutions, ensure architectural compatibility with system interfaces, manage and verify standards-supported enhancements, verify compliance with security and performance requirements and provide technical expertise deploying and implementing a new Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) compliant data warehouse.
How does it get done?
Provide technical expertise to support the Ed-Fi Operational Data Store and support the existing standards-based vendor provided solution Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) compliant data warehouse. Work with team members to re-engineer data collection, data validation and reporting of Student and Teacher data submitted to PED from the approximately 150 Local Education Agencies (NM School Districts and Charters). Data warehouse modernization activities include: implementation of ED-FI standards-based Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for data collection, definition of data elements and extensions for an ED-FI Operational Data Store (ODS), implementation of a data validation engine, data transfer and translation into the target consolidated standards-based Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) compliant data warehouse. Maintenance of designated test environment for verification of changes prior to production deployment.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in software programming. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Office setting. Long periods of sitting and continuous use of monitor and keyboard. Stress due to deadlines and workload. Occasional overnight travel, work after hours, weekends and/or holidays may be required; Occasionally variable work schedule. Exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
