Central Nebraska Public Power & Irrigation District delivers irrigation water to more than 109,000 acres on the south side of the Platte River between North Platte and Minden and also provides supplemental water from Lake McConaughy to irrigation projects serving more than 100,000 acres along the North Platte and Platte Rivers. Central generates electricity for homes, farms and industry at four hydroplants, one at Kingsley Dam and three on Central’s Supply Canal. The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District has a full-time employment opportunity for a versatile, motivated, self-starting, System Administrator. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or management information systems or equivalent work experience is required. The System Administrator will support and maintain the District’s information technology infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high‑performance systems that support both corporate and operational needs. This role is responsible for managing servers, virtualization platforms, network equipment, Microsoft 365 services, cybersecurity tools, and specialized OT/SCADA‑adjacent systems. The System Administrator works with engineering, telecommunications, and corporate management to maintain critical systems that support CNPPID’s power generation, irrigation operations, and business functions.
Work Environment
Work environment includes occasional unusual working hours due to unplanned outages or equipment failures, mild work stress with time pressures and emergency situations, and travel to district offices, hydro facilities, remote sites, and operational locations.
Responsibilities
- Manage, monitor, and maintain Windows and Linux servers across physical and virtual environments, including the OT/SCADA network.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions that enhance reliability, security, or efficiency.
- Provide support for corporate users, remote sites, and field operations.
- Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related identity services.
- Support Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Endpoint Management.
- Document systems, configurations, network diagrams, and procedure
- Participate in hardening, compliance, and risk‑mitigation efforts following NIST, CIP, and internal standards.
- Manage and maintain district-wide backup solutions for servers, applications, and critical data.
- Assist with maintaining VOIP and microwave communications throughout the District.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, and enterprise networking.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and communicate technical issues clearly.
- Maintain a valid Nebraska driver’s license with a responsible driving record.
