POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for daily setup and operation of industrial grade mechanical, hydraulic and CNC controlled saws & shears in a just-in-time fabrication shop. Perform routine work to customer requirements on a variety of work centers. This is a cross functional position within the Fabrication department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate industrial grade mechanical and hydraulic shears & saws.
- Select correct feeds, speeds, blade gaps and/or tooling for the job.
- Load, install and setup the tooling for repetitive work per job plan as required.
- Read blue print and work order instructions to correctly produce parts.
- Accurately process a variety of metals with differing characteristics including structural metal, tubing, pipe, angles, metal shapes. Ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
- Assist less experienced shear/saw operators and other production team members.
- Accurately account for time and work completed via online computer data collection system.
- Issue material to work orders and record material certifications to work order.
- Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and completed work.
- Make decisions and problem solve for routine manufacturing issues.
- Initiate quality control documents for materials and parts production issues.
- Maintain performance log books on assigned area equipment and report deficiencies to the maintenance team.
- Participate in equipment preventative maintenance and assist service technicians with machine repairs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have experience in metal saw/shear and fabrication with industrial saw experience – MARVEL, HE&M CNC experience or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge and understanding of saw and shear operations.
- Ability to measure parts accurately and familiar with basic shop hand tools.
- Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
- Ability to read blueprints and other shop drawing aids at operator level.
- Some experience with material handling with an overhead crane.
- Flexible and responsive with a strong teamwork orientation.
- Good verbal and fair written communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lift, carry, push and or pull 1 – 50 lbs frequently.
- Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
- Sit, stand and walk for 1 – 10 hours per day.
- Ability to work in a 55 –88 degree Fahrenheit work environment.
- Work in a fast paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, hard hat and steel-toed shoes.
