Associate Attorney - General Civil Litigation

About the Firm:
We are a small (one attorney, two paralegals) general practice civil litigation firm that handles everything from neighbor disputes to constitutional challenges to statutes around the country. Our job is to solve our clients’ problems in the most efficient way possible whatever that might entail. We do the work because we get great enjoyment in helping people and solving problems. The “business” is a side effect of doing good work.
We are seeking an Associate Attorney who is intellectually curious, likes solving problems, and wants to learn about the law as a practical tool. Most of all, someone who enjoys helping people and would enjoy working to get them through what can often be a difficult time. Our ideal candidate is smart, curious, and has strong interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
Because we are a small firm, an associate attorney will quickly be given responsibility and authority for cases. Duties would include everything that goes into representing a client:
- Case analysis and research.
- Gathering evidence, problem solving.
- Drafting of briefs, motions, discovery, etc.
- Court appearances.
- Meeting and communicating with clients, opposing counsel, experts, etc.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in North Carolina or eligible for admission.
- 0–3 years of experience (judicial clerkship or relevant internship experience welcomed).
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple matters while meeting deadlines.
- Professional judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to providing outstanding client service.
