RAFT (Rural Alternative for Transportation) is a charitable, nonprofit corporation providing transportation services through a Volunteer Driver Program for older adults (60+) and adults with disabilities who cannot drive. We are based in Berthoud Colorado.
Position Objective
Provide executive leadership and implement strategic direction for RAFT while overseeing all operational, financial, and administrative functions. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and serves as the primary liaison to municipal partners, including managing contracts such as the Town of Berthoud transportation services agreement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, vision, and direction for RAFT operations and long-term growth - Oversee all transportation services, including scheduling, dispatch, and service delivery performance, (must drive clients when needed)
- Recruit volunteers and oversee background checks- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety standards- Develop, implement, update and maintain organizational policies, procedures, manualsand operational systems- Manage the RAFT budget, contract funds, grants, and other revenue sources- Monitor financial performance, input financial spreadsheets and ensure fiscal accountability and sustainability
- Manage and timely process payroll for employees, process reimbursement checks for volunteer drivers - Serve as primary contact for municipal, county, state and federal contracts and ensure compliance with all agreements- Build and maintain partnerships with local municipal, county, state and federal agencies, nonprofits, and community stakeholders- Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff, including operations personnel and drivers- Develop staff training programs focused on safety, customer service, and regulatory compliance- Oversee fleet management, including maintenance, replacement planning, and insurance- Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor development, and public funding opportunities- Prepare reports and present updates to the Board of Directors- Represent RAFT at community meetings, events, and regional coordination efforts- Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and documentation of services- Address operational issues, service disruptions, and organizational risks- Support and promote a positive organizational culture and mission-driven service delivery
- Along with Board Chairperson coordinate and schedule monthly Board meetings
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership and organizational management skills- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities- Strong financial management and budgeting skills- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders- Knowledge of transportation systems, nonprofit management, and regulatory requirements- Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations- High level of problem-solving, decision-making, and adaptability- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn operational software systems- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain professionalism
Desired Training and/or Experience
- Executive or senior leadership experience in nonprofit, transportation, or public sector organizations- Experience managing government or municipal contracts- Grant writing and fundraising experience- Budget development and financial oversight- Supervising staff and organizational development- Knowledge of rural or community-based transportation systems- Familiarity with DOT, ADA, and related regulatory frameworks
Hours and Schedule
Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week); primarily office-based with required attendance at meetings, community events, and occasional evening or weekend commitments.
Pay
Range 55K -72K year, commensurate with experience.
