Community Education Coordinator
The Community Education Coordinator position is a non-exempt full-time position of NAMI Metro-Suburban. NAMI Metro-Suburban is a grassroots individual and family mental health support, education, and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people, families, and communities affected by mental illness in the western suburbs of Cook County.
Position Purpose: Assist the Community Education Manager in all aspects of planning, scheduling, and evaluating the education offerings. This position works out of NAMI’s Maywood location
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Provides Educational Preparation:
- Works closely with the Director of Education and Education Manager to execute all school-based and community offerings.
- Uses their lived experience to advocate and normalize mental illness by actively sharing their story.
- Coordinates with school staff to schedule NAMI programs for students, administration, teachers, social workers, support staff, etc.
- Delivers NAMI educational presentations, workshops, activities for teens, students, teachers, and family members in schools, community members, park district campers, and workplaces.
- Builds and maintains school partnerships through outreach to social workers, administrators, & teachers.
- Coordinates with education team, volunteers, and contracted speakers for scheduling purposes.
- Assists with the creation and development of curriculum for educational programs and maintains and updates educational materials when needed
- Creates and distributes educational newsletters.
- Coordinates logistics, schedules, and promotes WRAP classes 2-3 times per year by coordinating with DIC and maintaining facilitator pool.
- Oversees promotion of education offerings through community meetings, flyers, and newsletters.
- Acquires Youth MHFA certification, promotes MHFA, and assists with NAMI on Campus
Supports Programs and Maintains Records:
- Coordinates volunteer appreciation social at the beginning of the school year.
- Compiles, records, and analyzes data of educational programs with the Sumac database, Excel, etc.
- Publicly shares and promotes NAMI Metro Suburban’s mission with various audiences.
- Compiles and aggregates data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and/or Education Manager.
- Maintains attendance records in a clear and organized manner for audits and reporting.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Access to a reliable vehicle for transportation
- Valid driver's license and submission to a background check
- Be comfortable speaking openly about personal mental health recovery story
- Availability Monday through Friday 9-5, occasional evenings and weekends
- Experience public speaking in front of a range of audiences
- Experience working with youth (preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
