Olympic Construction is a family-owned, hands-on commercial construction company based in Nicholasville, KY. We self-perform masonry, ICF, concrete, and related trades on commercial projects, and ownership is active in the day-to-day work. We're growing, and we're looking for a Lead Estimator who wants to own the bid process from invitation through award — and see the jobs they price built right.
Position Summary
The Lead Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, competitive bids on commercial masonry, ICF, and concrete scopes — from takeoff through final pricing and handoff to the Project Manager. This role works closely with ownership on bid strategy and go/no-go decisions, and plays a key part in the company's continued growth.
What You'll Do
- Perform full quantity takeoffs on masonry, ICF, concrete, and related scopes from drawings and specs
- Build unit pricing using historical job cost data and current material and labor rates
- Solicit, vet, and compare subcontractor and material supplier quotes
- Identify scope gaps, conflicts, or ambiguities in drawings and specs before bid day
- Manage multiple live bids at once and meet every submission deadline
- Assess risk and determine where to carry contingency and where to hold the line on margin
- Work with ownership on go/no-go decisions and final pricing before bids go out
- Hand off awarded projects to the Project Manager with a clean, complete estimate package
- Track bid outcomes and use wins and losses to sharpen future pricing and strategy
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience estimating commercial construction — masonry, ICF, or concrete self-perform scope strongly preferred
- Strong drawing and specification reading skills, with an eye for catching problems before they cost money
- Proficiency with takeoff software (On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar) and Excel
- Ability to manage several bids at once under tight deadlines without losing accuracy
- Clear, confident communication with GCs, vendors, subcontractors, and ownership
- A track record of thinking in numbers — margin, risk, and return, not just cost
- Comfortable in a hands-on, family-run company where ownership is close to every bid
Nice to Have
- Experience leading or mentoring other estimators, or building out an estimating process
- Field experience in masonry, ICF, or concrete construction
- An existing network of GC and subcontractor relationships in the region
