Duties
- Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems including air conditioning units, boilers, refrigeration equipment, and mechanical systems.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and building automation system diagrams to troubleshoot issues effectively.
- Perform electrical diagnostics using tools like ohmmeters to identify faults in electrical systems and HVAC controls.
- Conduct equipment troubleshooting and repairs on HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration) units to ensure optimal performance.
- Support plumbing tasks related to HVAC systems such as condensate drain lines or refrigerant piping.
- Utilize hand tools and welding equipment for mechanical repairs and system upgrades.
- Maintain detailed documentation of service activities, system diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used for each job.
Requirements
- Proven construction experience with a focus on mechanical or HVAC-related projects.
- Prior service technician experience working with HVAC or refrigeration systems is highly preferred.
- Ability to read schematics, technical drawings, and building automation system layouts accurately.
- Knowledge of HVAC design principles and mechanical systems repair techniques.
- Hands-on experience with electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting electrical systems within HVAC units.
- Familiarity with refrigeration systems including ammonia refrigeration is a plus.
- Mechanical knowledge related to HVAC system installation, maintenance, and repair processes.
- Experience with plumbing tasks associated with HVAC applications.
- Proficiency using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, ohmmeters, welding equipment, and other mechanical tools.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients.
- Valid driver’s license for field service operations.
- Certifications such as EPA refrigerant handling certification are required; additional certifications in electrical or mechanical fields are advantageous.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in various environments including commercial buildings or residential properties.
