Purpose: First Lutheran Church is a growing faith-based community. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Church Custodian to create a welcoming and peaceful environment for church members and visitors.
Essential Functions:
- Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot cleaning in all public areas of the building, including bathrooms, worship areas, childcare, kitchens, and meeting rooms.
- Working with other maintenance team members and church staff to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.
- Observing proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions.
- Performing maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, equipment maintenance and making repairs.
- Assisting with event preparations and clean-up, e.g., set-up, take-down and store chairs and tables as needed.
- Monitor building safety and security, assuring doors are locked in accordance with building schedule.
- Perform general ground maintenance (weeding, mowing, shoveling, etc.)
- Work closely with church staff, volunteers, and leaders to coordinate facility-related tasks and support the overall church mission.
Specific Requirements
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant it.

- Must be able to manage time and multiple tasks and projects.
- Able to work collaboratively and be a team player.
- Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
- Must understand calendar schedules and implications of multiple events to custodial needs and support.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Custodial experience or training may be required.
- Attending staff meetings.
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Working Conditions
- Sits, stands, bends, reaches, and moves intermittently during work.
- Works beyond normal hours for planned functions of the church and emergencies.
- Communicates with supervisor and other church staff, volunteers, members, and guests.
- Is exposed to slippery conditions, odors, outside weather conditions, etc.
Accountability:
- The Church Custodian reports to the Facility Manager.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
