Demonstrating the values of Grand Rapids Women’s Health, this employee is responsible for providing professional education to our obstetric patients.
- The nurse educator facilitates the intake process for all new pregnancies, as an in-person education visit.
- Reviews patient past medical, family, genetic, social, obstetrical, gynecological and medication history with patient and/or other records to update or create the Grand Rapids Women’s Health medical history in the electronic medical records.
- Order routine obstetrical labs per protocol.
- Creates the Prenatal and Lab Flowsheets for the pregnancy.
- Provides patient with predetermined and appropriate clinical education regarding their pregnancy. (i.e. HIV and other routine prenatal testing, risk factors, nutrition, sexual activity, exercise, travel, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, childbirth classes and safe OTC medications in pregnancy)
- Provides patient with predetermined and appropriate education about our office and services that are available throughout the pregnancy.
- Assesses patient’s general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
- Identifies concerns and proactively notifies the patient’s provider should additional orders be required based on the patient’s current conditions or concerns.
- Adheres to infection control/ safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Routinely calls Post-partum patient’s to check on their wellbeing between the 2 and 4th week.
- Reviews and signs off on routine and normal obstetrical labs.
