Basic Purpose:
Performs daily maintenance tasks and special projects. Repairs, installs, and adjusts machinery and equipment, performing parts replacement, routine, and preventative maintenance. Additionally, supports the sanitation crew during third-shift operations by assisting with equipment disassembly, draining, and other mechanical sanitation-related tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure smooth business and production operations.
- Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
- Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
- Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
- Assist the sanitation crew on third shift with equipment-related tasks such as removing blades, draining lines or tanks, and disassembling parts for cleaning.
- Possess basic mechanical aptitude to support sanitation-related mechanical work.
- Ability to work in all departments in the processing plant environment, which includes cold, damp conditions.
- Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Exhibit good problem-solving skills and basic math proficiency.
- Organize tasks effectively and monitor the quality of work performed.
- Provide a means of communication during non-working hours for emergencies and respond to emergency call-ins within 30 minutes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including work areas, benches, and break rooms.
- Ensure a safe work environment by identifying and eliminating unsafe acts or conditions.
- Be proficient in or willing to learn cutting and welding, hydraulics, filter systems, pipe fitting/plumbing, operation of shop equipment, sheet metal fabrication, pneumatics, and electrical wiring/motors.
- Maintain production areas with minimal supervision including receiving, picking room, evisceration, debone, Cryovac, and tray pack.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support HPPC business objectives.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Mechanically inclined; prior experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, precision instruments, and electronic testing devices. Must provide personal hand tools necessary to safely perform job duties.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in close proximity to blood and other processing conditions.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.

- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend, twist, and work at heights.
