Program Background
Indy Peace is a data-driven, community-based approach to reducing gun violence within the City of Indianapolis. Indy Peace is a partnership between the Indy Public Safety Foundation and the Office of Public Health and Safety, developed as part of Mayor Hogsett’s Violence Reduction Strategy. Announced in Fall 2021, the strategy emphasizes investments in solutions that address the root causes of violence and peacemakers who engage with those at risk of becoming perpetrators or victims of gun violence.
Position Description
The Behavioral Health & Wellness Manager serves as the clinical behavioral health expert for the Indy Peace program. This position provides trauma-informed behavioral health services to Indy Peace Fellows while leading workforce wellness initiatives that support Outreach Workers, Violence Interrupters, Life Coaches, and program leadership. The clinician provides direct clinical care, strengthens staff resilience through the Collective Care Program, and serves as a strategic advisor on behavioral health practices that improve participant outcomes and support the long-term effectiveness of Indy Peace's violence intervention model.
In addition to providing direct clinical services, the Behavioral Health & Wellness Manager collaborates with multidisciplinary partners to strengthen continuity of care, improve access to behavioral health resources, and support evidence-based practices across the program. This position plays a key role in developing organizational wellness initiatives, enhancing staff resilience, and ensuring behavioral health services are integrated into Indy Peace's violence intervention strategy.
This position is designed to integrate behavioral health into every aspect of Indy Peace's violence intervention model by improving participant outcomes, supporting workforce wellness, and strengthening the organization's trauma-informed approach to community violence intervention.
Essential Functions
Clinical Services & Trauma Recovery
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments for Indy Peace Fellows.
- Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based individual therapy utilizing therapeutic approaches appropriate to participant needs, including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and other evidence-based behavioral health interventions.
- Develop individualized treatment, recovery, and safety plans that establish therapeutic goals, recommended services, and anticipated duration of treatment.
- Coordinate scheduling, participant engagement, follow-up services, and continuity of care throughout treatment.
- Assess participant progress and make recommendations to the Indy Peace multidisciplinary team regarding additional behavioral health, medical, social service, employment, housing, or community-based supports.
- Coordinate and facilitate therapeutic groups, psychoeducational workshops, and support groups for Fellows and, when appropriate, their family members and support systems.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, trauma response, and safety planning.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with professional licensing standards, HIPAA requirements, ethical guidelines, and organizational policies.
Staff Wellness & Collective Care
- Design, implement, and oversee the Indy Peace Collective Care Program.
- Provide confidential counseling and wellness support for Indy Peace staff.
- Facilitate reflective supervision, wellness groups, psychoeducation sessions, and critical incident stress debriefings following traumatic incidents.
- Coordinate quarterly staff wellness retreats and resilience-building activities.
- Develop and implement organizational wellness policies and initiatives designed to reduce burnout, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma.
- Promote a culture of wellness, resilience, and psychological safety throughout the organization.
Leadership & Organizational Responsibilities
- Serve as the clinical behavioral health expert for the Indy Peace program.
- Advise program leadership on trauma-informed organizational practices and workforce wellness strategies.
- Participate in Violence Reduction Council (VRC) meetings and multidisciplinary case reviews by providing behavioral health expertise.
- Develop behavioral health policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
- Consult with Outreach Workers, Violence Interrupters, Life Coaches, and Program Managers regarding participant behavioral health needs while maintaining clinical confidentiality.
- Strengthen partnerships with hospitals, behavioral health providers, and community organizations to improve continuity of care for Fellows.
- Assist leadership in developing trauma-informed organizational policies and evidence-based clinical practices.
Program Evaluation & Strategic Development
- Develop and implement the behavioral health strategy for the Indy Peace program.
- Support program evaluation, continuous quality improvement, grant reporting, and outcome measurement.
- Analyze behavioral health outcomes and recommend program improvements.
- Assist with data collection and reporting related to participant engagement, clinical outcomes, staff wellness, and grant performance measures.
- Support research initiatives and development of future behavioral health programming.
- Assist with grant applications and program sustainability efforts as requested.
Training & Workforce Development
- Provide ongoing training to staff on trauma-informed care, resilience, behavioral health, and self-care best practices.
- Educate supervisors on recognizing burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and secondary traumatic stress.
- Assist with onboarding new staff regarding behavioral health resources and organizational wellness practices.
- Promote evidence-based interventions and behavioral health best practices across the organization.
Special Projects and Tasks as Assigned
- Lead or assist with strategic initiatives and special projects assigned by Indy Peace leadership.
- Represent Indy Peace at community meetings, conferences, trainings, and professional events as requested.
Basic Qualifications
Basic qualifications of the position are as follows:
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Current Indiana licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience providing trauma-informed behavioral health services.
- Experience working with individuals impacted by violence, trauma, justice involvement, or other high-risk populations preferred.
- Experience utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, TF-CBT, EMDR, ART, Motivational Interviewing, or comparable interventions.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic groups, psychoeducational programming, and/or family support services preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to travel throughout Marion County; valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance required.
- This is an at-will position.
- While this position works closely with the City of Indianapolis as part of Indy Peace, the position is employed by the Indy Public Safety Foundation.

Hours, Compensation, and Benefits
- Full-time, exempt position.
- Evening and weekend work may be required to support participants, staff, or critical incidents.

- Professional development opportunities and specialized training in community violence intervention, trauma-informed care, and behavioral health will be provided as funding allows.
Pay: $72,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
