Duties
- Assist veterinarians with animal examinations, treatments, and surgeries by preparing equipment and ensuring proper animal restraint using animal handling techniques.
- Perform laboratory procedures such as blood draws, sample processing, and diagnostic testing to support accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain detailed records of patient histories, treatments, and laboratory results in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Support pet care activities including grooming, feeding, administering medications, and monitoring post-operative recovery.
- Handle animal restraint safely during procedures like catheterization, X-ray imaging, or dental cleanings, ensuring minimal stress for animals.
- Conduct kennel duties such as cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals’ health status to promote optimal animal husbandry practices.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and supporting cleaning or polishing efforts.
- Operate veterinary equipment including X-ray machines and laboratory instruments while adhering to aseptic techniques for infection control.
- Support equine or larger animal cases when applicable by assisting with handling and basic care procedures.
Requirements
- Prior kennel experience or hands-on animal care experience is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary critical care principles.
- Experience with dog handling, pet grooming, pet care routines, and animal restraint techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures including sample collection and processing.
- Ability to perform animal catheterization and utilize aseptic techniques effectively.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology and basic dental procedures is a plus.
- Excellent animal handling skills across various species including dogs and cats when applicable.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
