We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant individual to join our team as a School Security Officer at Prospect Heights Middle. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors on campus. This full-time position requires a proactive approach to maintaining a safe learning environment, effective communication skills, and the ability to respond to emergencies with composure and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and patrol school premises to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors.
- Respond promptly to any incidents, emergencies, or suspicious activities, and take appropriate action in accordance with established protocols.
- Collaborate with school administration, staff, and local law enforcement to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of school facilities and grounds to identify potential security risks and recommend improvements.
- Provide a visible security presence to deter inappropriate behavior and promote a positive school environment.
- Assist in the enforcement of school rules and regulations, addressing conflicts and disciplinary issues as needed.
- Conduct investigations into incidents, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records of security activities.
- Organize and participate in safety drills and training sessions for staff and students.
- Serve as a resource for students and staff, providing guidance and support in matters related to safety and security.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with other school personnel to enhance overall school safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in security or law enforcement is a plus.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
- Knowledge of safety and security protocols, emergency response procedures, and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Must pass a background check and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding school security.
- Certification in first aid, CPR, and AED preferred or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Physical ability to perform security duties, including walking, standing for extended periods, and responding to emergencies.
