At PVESC we’ve earned the trust of pet owners and referring veterinarians by delivering exceptional specialty, emergency, and urgent care throughout Southern Maine for 30 years. Our team is dedicated to delivering advanced medical care with compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence. We support a network of referring veterinarians while providing 24/7 emergency services and a wide range of specialty care.
We're looking for an experienced and motivated Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Warren Avenue hospital. In this key leadership role, you'll partner closely with hospital leadership to support our Urgent Care and Specialty teams, cultivate a collaborative and positive workplace culture, and ensure an exceptional experience for both patients and clients.
The Practice Manager is responsible for overseeing hospital operations, leading and developing a high-performing team, optimizing workflows, and driving operational excellence. Schedule
This is a full-time position:
- 40 - 45 hours/week
- Schedule will initially include a combination of daytime, evening and weekend hours
- As the practice grows and our hours expand, this schedule may be adjusted to meet hospital needs
- The Practice Manager will be expected to maintain a flexible schedule to support patient care, hospital operations, and business needs as our practice evolves

Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily hospital operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization
- Coach, mentor, and support veterinary technicians, client service representatives, and support staff
- Foster a positive, collaborative culture focused on teamwork, accountability and team engagement
- Create an environment where team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing team development
- Partner with Operations Director and Medical Director to achieve operational and financial goals
- Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and hospital performance
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure exceptional client service and patient care standards are consistently maintained
- Resolve client concerns with professionalism, empathy, and a focus on positive outcomes
Qualifications
- 2+ years of leadership or management experience in veterinary medicine
- 5+ years as a licensed or certified technician working in a veterinary hospital
- Experience in veterinary urgent care, emergency, or specialty medicine is preferred
- Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change while maintaining a positive team culture
- Experience leading teams in a fast-paced environment
- Financial management experience, including budgets and operational metrics
