Job Overview:
The Field Safety Officer supports Pacific West’s commitment to a safe, compliant, and high-performing work environment by working directly alongside field teams at active job sites.
This is a hands-on, travel-based position requiring approximately 80% travel. The Field Safety Coordinator will not be assigned permanently to one location. Project locations, travel schedules, and assignments may change based on operational needs, sometimes with limited notice.
This role is highly visible in the field and is responsible for reinforcing safety expectations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving consistent execution of company safety programs across multiple active job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor safety performance and reinforce safe work practices
- Partner with Superintendents and Foremen to identify and correct hazards
- Serve as a visible safety resource to field employees
- Assist with site-specific safety planning and execution
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, client, rail, environmental, and industrial safety requirements
- Maintain required safety documentation, permits, certifications, and records
- Participate in audits, inspections, incident investigations, and near-miss reviews
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and onboarding orientations
- Coach field leaders and employees on PPE, safe work procedures, and company expectations
- Support consistent safety practices across multiple project locations
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of construction, environmental, industrial services, or related field safety experience
- OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
- Experience supporting multiple active jobsites
- Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in railroad, FRA, environmental remediation, heavy civil, or industrial safety preferred
- Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
Travel and Physical Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 80% of the time is required
- Must be comfortable with changing project locations, schedules, and travel assignments
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and site conditions
- Ability to walk active jobsites, climb, and perform physical inspections
- Ability to wear required PPE
- Per diem provided for qualifying travel assignments
