In-House Accountant
Rescue Roofing — Houston, TX (On-site) — Full-time
Rescue Roofing is one of Houston's fastest-growing residential roofing companies, built by industry pros who set out to raise the standard for quality work, transparent pricing, and reliable service. We're hiring our first dedicated in-house accountant to take ownership of our books, tighten our cost capture, and raise the standard of our financial reporting.
This is a hands-on, build-and-improve role with real room to grow. You'll work directly with the owner to shape and improve our accounting processes — not just maintain them — while our outside CPA firm handles tax filings. Our core systems (QuickBooks, JobNimbus, and Ramp) are already connected and ready to go; we need someone who can take full ownership of them, put them into play day to day, and keep the operation running with speed and discipline. This is a standard-setting role: we're looking for someone with the backbone to hold the team accountable, the drive to move fast, and the ambition to grow with us. If that's you, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Capture costs completely and on time — our top priority. Ensure every expense, especially recurring costs, is recorded promptly and accurately so job margins reflect reality.
- Take full ownership of our Ramp credit card program: enforce same-day charge entry, hold cardholders accountable for documentation, manage card assignments by individual, and ensure every charge is coded correctly in QuickBooks.
- Own the accounting side of our JobNimbus–QuickBooks connection: work with the production team to make sure project data (customer name, address, and job details) flows through cleanly, and catch and correct any breakdowns.
- Maintain detailed job costing across projects — materials, labor, and subcontractor costs — to report project-level profitability.
- Produce cost accounting and variance reports that surface material price changes and margin impact, especially the components beneath the shingles (underlayment, decking, flashing, drip edge, ventilation) whose costs can swing significantly.
- Take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping and the general ledger, posting and categorizing transactions accurately and on time.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes — and continuously improve them.
- Prepare and review financial statements; perform account reconciliations and investigate irregularities.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor/supplier bills and customer invoicing.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and financing-partner accounts.
- Process payroll and calculate sales commissions accurately and on time.
- Monitor cash flow and support budgeting and forecasting.
- Review and strengthen internal controls, addressing deficiencies as needed.
- Ensure accurate sales tax handling on invoicing and provide our outside CPA firm with the information needed for tax filings.
- Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of all financial data.
What You Bring
- Associate's degree in Accounting required; Bachelor's preferred, or in progress
- 2–5 years of accounting experience
- Prior construction and/or contracting industry experience
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online Advanced or Enterprise)
- Quick to learn and operate new technology — able to master and run our systems (QuickBooks, JobNimbus, Ramp) and adapt fast as tools evolve
- Comfortable using AI tools to strengthen month-end close, reporting, and cost accounting — including producing clearer reports and surfacing variances and price changes

- Knowledge of sales tax
- The confidence and backbone to set standards, hold cardholders and team members accountable, and enforce financial discipline
