Job Description
Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County is seeking a customer-focused and dependable Donation Receiver to join our ReStore team. This position is primarily responsible for greeting donors, evaluating incoming donations, accepting and documenting donations, and providing exceptional customer service. The Donation Receiver serves as the first point of contact for many donors and plays an important role in supporting the ReStore's mission and operations.
This position is based primarily at the ReStore donation area and may occasionally assist the donation pickup team by helping load and unload donations during scheduled pickups. This is not a driving position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Donation Receiving
- Professionally greet and assist donors.
- Inspect and evaluate donated items according to ReStore acceptance guidelines.
- Communicate acceptance or declination of donations in a respectful and professional manner.
- Provide and assist with donation tax receipts.
- Maintain awareness of current donation acceptance standards.
- Refer questionable items to management for review.
- Thank donors and promote Habitat for Humanity's mission.
Customer Service & Store Support
- Provide excellent customer service to donors, customers, volunteers, and team members.
- Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise when needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized donation receiving area.
- Follow all ReStore policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily ReStore operations.
Occasional Pickup Assistance
- Assist the donation pickup team on scheduled pickups as needed.
- Help load and unload furniture, appliances, and other donated items.
- Follow proper lifting techniques and safety procedures.
- Provide courteous customer service during pickup appointments.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment when assessing donations.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Forklift experience is a plus (training provided).
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous customer service, retail, warehouse, or donation center experience preferred.
- Background check required.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
