Position Summary
The Front of House Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for supporting daily front-end operations to ensure efficient processing of guest transactions and delivery of guest service in accordance with company standards. This role assists in maintaining control of cash and front-end procedures while supporting team members during assigned shifts.
The Front of House Operations Shift Supervisor works under the direction of the Front of House & Grocery Manager and is responsible for executing daily operations, supporting team members, and maintaining compliance with company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Front-End Operations:
- Must be able to do all tasks of a Front End Associate
- Support all front-end activities to ensure efficient operations and guest satisfaction
- Ensure compliance with all front-end policies and procedures.
- Assist in resolving customer requests and concerns in a timely manner
- Maintain control and accuracy of all cash, media, lottery, and money order functions
- Perform housekeeping duties and assist with register audits as directed
- Ensure the floor is handled consistently between each supervisor
Front-End Flow & Shift Execution:
- Assign cashiers to register and manage lane placement based on customer traffic
- Actively monitor and manage customer flow to minimize wait times
- Schedule and manage team member breaks based on business needs
- Monitor call-offs, document absences, and assist with securing coverage as directed
- Ensure proper lane coverage at all times
- Step in as needed to:
- Run register
- Bag groceries
- Assist customers directly
- Ensure the register/front-end area is:
- Stocked
- Clean
- Organized
- Maintain a professional and positive work environment, promoting teamwork and addressing unprofessional behavior
Team Support & Direction:
- Provide daily direction and support to front-end team members
- Reinforce company policies, procedures, and expectations
- Assist with training of team members as directed by the Assistant Manager
- Ensure team members remain on task and performing assigned duties
- Communicate any concerns or issues to the Assistant Manager
- When business is slow assign tasks to team members to support the store as a whole (can be in other departments)
Accountability & Disciplinary Support:
- Carry out disciplinary actions as directed by the Assistant Manager
- Assist in documenting performance, attendance, and policy violations
- Address immediate performance concerns during shift
- Escalate ongoing or serious issues to the Assistant Manager or Vice President
Store Leadership (Acting Supervisor on Duty when there is no other management present):
- When no other supervisor or manager is on site, assume responsibility for store operations during the shift and serve as the point of contact for the store.
- Ensure all team members in the building are:
- On task
- Operating safely
- Accounted for at all times
- Maintain awareness of team member locations and responsibilities
- Require team members to check out prior to leaving to confirm:
- Assigned areas are clean
- Tasks are completed
Loss Prevention & Compliance Support:
- Support team member bag checks and sticker process as directed
- Ensure compliance with store policies related to purchases and personal items
- Act as an active witness for theft, specifically monitoring for:
- Concealment
- Passing the point of sale without payment
- Report suspicious activity to the VP & through proper forms for investigation. Wait for next steps.
Incident & Reporting Responsibilities:
- Assist with or complete incident reports as directed
- Ensure all required documentation is accurate and submitted appropriately
- Communicate incidents to the Assistant Manager or management team
Store Operations Support:
- Maintain a presence on the sales floor
- Respond to Service 80 calls and assist store operations as needed
- Support other departments as directed by management
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Must be 18 years or older
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow direction and enforce policies consistently
- Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately
- Basic math and computer skills, including POS systems
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary for front-end operations
- Must be reliable, flexible, and dependable
- Ability to pass background and drug/alcohol screening
Reliability Expectations
- This position requires consistent attendance and reliability
- Unplanned absences may impact the ability to perform the responsibilities of the role and may result in reassignment
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move merchandise
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion
- Ability to operate registers and front-end equipment
- Work in a fast-paced retail environment with varying conditions
