In this role, you will perform routine preparation of histological slides in accordance with established protocols and standard operating procedures. You will also identify and resolve discrepancies, operate laboratory equipment, and contribute to a high-quality workflow in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preparation of histological slides from surgical and biopsy specimens, including embedding, microtomy, mounting, staining, and labeling
- Perform specialized tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques as required
- Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions with precision
- Operate laboratory equipment, including tissue processors (standard and microwave), embedding stations, microtomes, tissue stainers, and coverslippers
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment in accordance with established safety procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Complete all required documentation and associated paperwork accurately
- Follow all laboratory procedures related to job responsibilities
- Identify issues that may impact test performance or reporting and take corrective action or escalate as appropriate
- Dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with established procedures
- Ensure compliance with all corporate, laboratory, local, federal, and CLIA regulations
- Assist with laboratory operations, including tasks typically performed by Lab Aides, as needed
- Stay current with advancements in histotechnology practices and techniques
- Perform other duties as assigned
Grossing Technician:
- Responsible for the accurate and timely receipt, and gross examination of surgical pathology specimens.
- Ensures proper specimen handling, documentation, and preparation for histologic and ancillary testing.
- Perform gross examination and dissection of specimens
- Dictate or document gross descriptions accurately and completely
- Select and submit appropriate tissue sections for histologic processing
- Ensure proper specimen orientation, inking, and margin designation
Qualifications:
- HT (Histotechnician) certification required; HTL (Histotechnologist) certification preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of histology experience in a pathology laboratory setting preferred
- Strong knowledge of histology techniques, tissue handling, and slide preparation
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot standard laboratory equipment, including microscopes
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated dependability and punctuality
- Must meet or be eligible to meet personnel requirements for high-complexity testing as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (42 CFR §493.1489), including appropriate education (e.g., bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology) or relevant laboratory training/experience. ≥ 24 semester hours in Biology and Chemistry
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
