Vegas Valley Fire Protection is looking for an advanced AutoCAD user who wants to learn fire sprinkler system design.
You do not need previous fire sprinkler experience. We are looking for someone with exceptional AutoCAD skills, strong computer aptitude, attention to detail, spatial reasoning, and the ability and desire to learn.
You will work alongside experienced fire sprinkler designers and NICET-certified industry leadership who will train and mentor you in fire sprinkler design, construction coordination, NFPA standards, hydraulic calculations, specialized design software, and the path toward achieving your own NICET certification.
We hire for technical aptitude and AutoCAD ability. We will teach you fire sprinkler design.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time, in-house position requiring the successful candidate to work on-site at our Las Vegas office.
Advanced AutoCAD proficiency is a minimum requirement. Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a practical AutoCAD skills assessment as part of the interview process.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Fire Sprinkler Design Associate will work with Senior Designers and Design Management to learn the design and preparation of fire sprinkler shop drawings.
As your knowledge and capabilities develop, responsibilities will expand to include complete system layouts, hydraulic calculations, construction coordination, permit submittals, AHJ responses, project management responsibilities, and coordination with field installation teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and modify fire sprinkler drawings using AutoCAD and specialized fire protection design software.
- Work directly with Senior Designers and Design Management to learn fire sprinkler system design.
- Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
- Coordinate sprinkler system layouts with other building systems.
- Learn and apply NFPA standards, building codes, local amendments, and AHJ requirements.
- Assist with preparation of fire sprinkler permit and shop drawing packages.
- Learn hydraulic calculation principles and software.
- Incorporate project revisions and coordination changes into drawings.
- Participate in project site visits when necessary to verify existing conditions.
- Provide accurate design information to field installation personnel.
- Maintain organized electronic project files, drawings, calculations, and documentation.
- Communicate with project managers, field personnel, contractors, engineers, architects, and AHJs as experience develops.
- Meet project schedules and assigned deadlines.
- Accept constructive feedback and continually improve technical skills.
- Follow company policies, procedures, quality standards, and ethical requirements.
- Perform other related duties assigned by management.
REQUIRED AUTOCAD SKILLS
This is not an entry-level AutoCAD position. Applicants must already be highly proficient in AutoCAD.
Candidates should be comfortable working efficiently with:
- Layers and layer management
- Blocks and dynamic blocks
- External references / Xrefs
- Model space and paper space
- Viewports and drawing scales
- Object snaps and precise drafting
- Coordinates and dimensions
- Polylines and standard drawing commands
- Offset, trim, extend, fillet, stretch, rotate, mirror, copy, and array functions
- Drawing cleanup and organization
- Text and annotation
- Plotting and PDF creation
- Navigating and modifying large construction drawing files
- Importing, organizing, and working with architectural backgrounds
Candidates should be able to work productively in AutoCAD without requiring basic AutoCAD instruction.

Experience with Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM software, 3D modeling, programming, advanced Excel, or other technical software is beneficial but not required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Strong general computer skills.

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Ability to work with dimensions, measurements, basic geometry, and mathematical calculations.

- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally, in writing, and electronically.
- Dependable attendance and consistent work habits.

- Ability to comply with applicable company, state, and federal requirements.
Previous fire sprinkler, fire protection, or construction experience is NOT required but beneficial and preferred.
