Our client is a well-established general contractor with a strong and growing presence throughout New Jersey, completing a wide range of commercial interior, retail, restaurant, renovation, and fit-out construction projects. Their work includes fast-paced interior renovations, tenant improvements, restaurant and retail build-outs, occupied-space renovations, and other commercial projects that require strong field coordination, schedule management, and attention to detail.
Our client currently has a very strong pipeline of active and upcoming work throughout North, Central, and South Jersey and is looking to add several experienced Construction Superintendents to its field team. Project assignments can be aligned geographically based on where it makes the most sense for the individual, with opportunities across multiple regions of the state.
These are full-time, long-term hires, not project-specific contract assignments. They have a significant amount of work in the pipeline and are looking for sharp, dependable Superintendents who can step onto a project, take ownership of the field, communicate well, run a clean jobsite, and continue moving from project to project as the company grows.
Position Overview
The Axel Group is seeking experienced Construction Superintendents to oversee active commercial construction projects throughout New Jersey.
This role is best suited for someone with 3+ years of commercial Superintendent experience who is comfortable taking ownership of daily field operations, managing subcontractors, coordinating inspections and deliveries, maintaining project documentation, and driving projects from mobilization through final closeout.
The Superintendent will work closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, clients, and internal leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules, plans, specifications, and company expectations.
The ideal candidate will come from a background in commercial interiors, retail, restaurant, renovations, fit-outs, or similarly fast-paced commercial construction and should be organized, proactive, hands-on, and comfortable making real-time decisions in the field.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations on commercial construction projects from mobilization through completion and closeout
- Manage subcontractors, trades, manpower, sequencing, and day-to-day jobsite activities
- Ensure construction is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, schedules, safety requirements, and company standards
- Coordinate site logistics, material deliveries, equipment, inspections, manpower flow, and overall workflow
- Maintain awareness of critical-path activities, long-lead materials, scheduled deliveries, and upcoming project milestones
- Work closely with Project Managers and internal leadership to communicate project progress, schedule updates, field conditions, delays, and upcoming needs
- Lead subcontractor coordination and maintain accountability across all trades on site
- Identify potential field issues early and work proactively with the project team to resolve them before they impact schedule, production, or quality
- Maintain accurate daily reports, progress photographs, drawings, safety documentation, field notes, and other required project records
- Coordinate required inspections with municipalities, consultants, ownership groups, and other project stakeholders
- Maintain strong jobsite safety practices and conduct regular site walks and quality-control inspections
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and efficiently operated jobsite
- Track punch-list work and drive projects through final completion and closeout
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, Project Managers, and internal leadership
- Represent the company professionally on site and take ownership of overall field execution
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Superintendent experience in commercial construction
- Experience with commercial interiors, renovations, retail, restaurant, tenant improvements, fit-outs, or other fast-paced commercial projects strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, sequencing, and field coordination
- Ability to independently manage day-to-day jobsite operations and multiple subcontractor trades
- Strong understanding of subcontractor coordination, site logistics, deliveries, manpower planning, inspections, and critical-path activities
- Ability to identify construction conflicts and make effective real-time decisions in the field
- Experience maintaining daily reports, progress photographs, safety records, drawings, and general project documentation
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and quality-control procedures
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, accountability, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking full ownership of field operations
- Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, vendors, and internal leadership
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
