Registered Dietitian
Position Overview:
Responsible for planning and implementing meal programs as requested by attending physician and modifications to ensure the health and nutrition of the residents in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.
Basic Qualifications Education and Certification: BS Degree in Nutritional Services; MS degree preferred; must have current license as a Dietitian within current state and be registered with the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Skills & Requirements: Must possess the ability to read, write and speak the English language; must be patient, friendly, courteous and respectful to residents in any situation, including difficult ones; must be able to make independent decisions when necessary; must have the ability to follow dietary department guidelines as outlined by the facility and other regulations governing dietary services in a long-term care facility; must be able to move frequently throughout the workday; must be able to lift 20 lbs floor to waist; lift 10 lbs waist to shoulder; lift and carry 20 lbs; and push/pull 20 lbs.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years dietary experience in health care; prior experience with nutritional planning and implementation.
Working Conditions Primarily works in an office setting as well as throughout the dietary department and facility; bends, lifts, sits, stands and moves frequently throughout the shift; deals with frequent interruptions and possibly upset residents and family members; works regularly scheduled shifts with possible weekends, holidays and other hours based on resident needs; primary responsibility is service to the residents but also deals with visitors, government personnel, etc.; participates in required continuing education programs; subject to odors, falls, burns and exposure to infectious diseases, waste, etc., including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Essential Job Duties 1. Provides consultation to the residents and families and develops nutritional goals based on the needs of the residents and in conjunction with the treating physician. 2. Focuses on the overall nutritional care of the residents and understands residents’ preferences. 3. Documents nutritional diet information in resident charts, including changes and updates 4. Assesses nutritional needs by timely reviewing resident charts. 5. Develops a schedule for training and education for families and residents on nutritional programs and services. 6. Manages labor budget and controls expenses in accordance with facility guidelines. 7. Provides training and education to families and resident on nutritional programs and services. 8. Monitors resident meals to ensure nutritional programs are being followed and meet the facility expectations. 9. Develops menus that ensure good health and nutrition for the residents in accordance with state and federal guidelines. 10. Provides consultation to residents, family and staff regarding nutritional practices to promote good health. 11. Participates in various routine and non-routine meetings to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of facility outcomes. Other Job Duties 12. Provides guidance to food service staff regarding nutritional program standards. 13. Ensures that resident nutritional needs are communicated timely and accurately to the food services staff. 14. Oversees the quality management and performance improvement plan for the dietary department. 15. Provides overall guidance on dietary services for residents. 16. Monitors menu plans to ensure they meet the nutritional needs of each resident. 17. Plans and develops special diets for residents as provided by treating physician. 18. Communicates with nursing department to monitor the resident’s nutritional intake. 19. Completes required forms, reports and other documents as outlined in the facility guidelines. 20. Assists with new employee training on nutritional programs and services within facility. 21. Reports resident and family grievances to the Administrator and makes recommendations for nutritional improvements. 22. Monitors dietary department processes to ensure the supply of nutritional foods are sufficient.
