Primary Function:
Straighten routine castings to meet required specifications.
Tools and Equipment:
Micrometer, height gauge, depth gauge, Vernier calipers, adjustable tooling points, inserts, fixtures,
templates, vise, and various hand tools such a as a hammer, punch, straight edge, etc.
Material:
Aluminum, copper, and brass based castings.
Direction of Others:
Working Procedure:
Under the guidance and direction of the department supervisor, the Straightening Specialist, the
Straightener A and the Straightener.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.
1 Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
2 Shall consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
3 Shall receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or lead person.
4 Shall check each casting, determining what straightening technique is required.
5 Shall place each casting in a holding device or fixture, if required, and perform various straightening
techniques using a variety of tools, such as a hammer, punch, file, vise, etc.
6 Shall exercise care during the straightening operation to hold parallelism, maintain dimensional
relationships and angles, radii, etc.
7 Shall move the castings to the next operation per the process sheet.
8 Shall use various surface plates, Vernier calipers, height gauges, depth gauges, templates, blocks,
micrometers and similar instruments to check the casting for adherence to the drawing dimension.
9 Shall maintain all records and vouchers in a clean and orderly condition, where accuracy is
paramount.
10 Must be able to read and interpret routine blueprints and casting drawings, including symbols.
11 Shall maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
12 Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
13 Shall attend and successfully complete lockout / tagout training classes.
14 Shall perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Working in an environment free of contaminants, where hearing protection is recommended.
Special Skills Required:
Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to perform the physical demands of the job.
No minimum formal educational achievement required.
