Registered Nurse -Cardiac Catheterization Lab
1. Summary of Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse is assigned the responsibility for assessing, planning, and evaluating the
needs and safety of patients during pre, intra and post procedure. Demonstrates ability to act as a
circulating nurse and/or procedural nurse. Possesses knowledge, skills, and education to assume these
responsibilities. Anticipates the physicians needs and prepares the procedural room to meet the
requirements of the procedure, patient's safety and physician's needs, provides an on-going assessment of
the patient during the procedure. The nurse is well trained in the aseptic and sterile techniques. Assists the
physician within the boundaries of the nurse practice acts and Center policy.
II. Qualifications
A. Preferred two years cardiac cath lab experience.
B. Strong knowledge in cardiac rhythm interpretation
C. Strong ACLS skills
D. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
E. Current Kansas RN license.
F. Communicates and works effectively with people.
G. Maintains current CPR/ACLS certification
H. NIHSS certificate, not a requirement to be hired, but will need to complete NIHSS upon starting position.
III. Physical Activities and Requirements
A. Able to perform physical requirements of the position including detailed work in a sitting, walking, and standing position.
B. Communicates clearly with other staff.
C. Able to manage pressure within the position. Response to crisis with confidence. Work efficiently in spite of everyday stress and interruptions. Able to maintain emotional stability.
IV. Responsibilities
A. Review patient's chart for medications, history and physical, labs, and plan for procedure.
B. Uses clinical assessment skills to determine each patient's physiological, psychosocial, safety and educational needs.
C. Recognizes and reports changes in the patient's status.
D. Processes physician's orders in a timely manner.
E. Can prioritize implementation of patient's needs, physician requests and interdepartmental workflow.
F. Documents all pertinent information into the patient chart.
G. Provides medication as ordered.
H. Acts as an advocate in providing safe delivery of care.
I. Thoroughly completes the Nursing Assessment Notes in an on-going and timely manner.
J. Demonstrates ability to circulate/and assist on all cardiac/vascular/nephrology procedures.
K. Utilizes measures to prevent infection.
L. Manages and operates equipment safely.
M. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile techniques.
N. Assists the physician with assessment of the patient.
0. Provides a safe and private environment for the patient.
P. Demonstrates competence in the clinical area of intravenous therapy.
Pay: $34.00 - $45.00 per hour
