Tissue Bank Laboratory | Non-Exempt | Entry Level
California Transplant Services is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Lab Assistant to support our tissue bank laboratory operations. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who takes pride in accuracy, organization, and contributing to work that helps patients.
What You’ll Do
- Order, receive, and stock laboratory supplies and dry ice; monitor inventory and report shortages
- Assemble surgical kits according to established procedures and kit lists
- Receive and distribute autologous tissue for surgery, verifying documentation and ensuring proper storage and timely delivery
- Schedule and coordinate courier and air cargo shipments of tissue and related materials
- Clean, defrost, and monitor ultra-low temperature freezers; record temperatures and report any issues
- Perform general laboratory cleaning and sanitation, including floors, counters, tables, and biohazardous waste disposal
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma and completion of a minimum of 2 years college education
- EMT or CNA certification is a plus
- Record of vaccinations for Hepatitis B, Influenza and Covid and willingness to be vaccinated as required
- Medical Terminology experience
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures
- Reliability and willingness to work varied schedules as needed (including evenings, weekends, or holidays when required)
- Prior laboratory, healthcare, inventory, or shipping experience is a plus—but not required; we will provide training as necessary.
- Good Personal Hygiene
Physical & Work Environment Notes
This role involves standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs routinely (occasionally up to 50 lbs), handling dry ice and commercially available cleaning products, and working in an FDA regulated laboratory setting where human tissue and related materials are present. Closed-toe shoes and willingnes to use appropriate PPE is required.
