BILINGUAL Experienced Optician / Optical Sales Specialist

Pay $24–$27/hour (depending on experience)
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced, bilingual Optician who is passionate about eyewear, patient care, and optical sales. This individual will play a key role in managing the day-to-day operations of our optical department while delivering an exceptional patient experience.
The ideal candidate is confident discussing premium lens options, recommending multiple-pair purchases, explaining insurance benefits, and helping patients select eyewear that meets both their visual needs and lifestyle.
Responsibilities
Optical Sales & Patient Experience
- Assist patients with frame selection and personalized frame styling
- Recommend lens options, coatings, and specialty products
- Present multiple-pair solutions, including second-pair and sunglasses recommendations
- Explain the benefits of premium lens designs and coatings
- Verify vision benefits and explain patient out-of-pocket costs clearly and confidently
- Educate patients on the differences between vision plans and medical insurance coverage
- Coordinate benefits when applicable between vision plans and PPO medical plans
- Help patients maximize their insurance benefits while meeting their visual needs
Optical Operations
- Process eyewear orders independently from start to finish
- Verify prescriptions and lens specifications
- Accurately measure PDs, segment heights, OC heights, and fitting measurements
- Dispense, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair eyewear
- Receive and inspect completed eyewear orders
- Maintain inventory and optical displays
- Meet with frame and contacts reps
- Assist with frame merchandising and optical presentation
Contact Lens Management
- Process contact lens orders and reorders
- Manage contact lens inventory
- Verify contact lens prescriptions and insurance benefits
- Coordinate contact lens annual supply orders
- Bill specialty contacts (medically necessary contacts like sclerals and hybrids) to VSP and Eyemed
Insurance & Administrative Responsibilities
- Work independently with:
- VSP
- EyeMed
- PPO plans
- Medicare
- Verify eligibility and benefits
- Billing of all visits and materials with VSP (including PEC) and EyeMed
- Submit and process optical orders through insurance portals
- Understand coordination of benefits and insurance limitations
Team Support
- Cross-train and assist with front office duties when needed
- Cross-train and assist with clinical support when needed
- Collaborate closely with doctors and staff to ensure excellent patient care
- Collaborate on content creation for our social media accounts
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of optical experience
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Strong optical sales experience
- Experience independently processing eyewear orders
- Experience with VSP ordering systems
- Experience with EyeMed ordering systems
- Experience with contact lens ordering and management
- Strong understanding of vision plans, insurance benefits, and patient financial responsibility
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the optical department
Preferred Qualifications
- ABO Certified Optician (ABOC)
- Experience with Eyefinity Practice Management (EPM)
- Experience with Eyefinity EHR
- Leadership or optical management experience
