10-Month Position
The Director of Special Education provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of special education services for middle and high school students across Buffalo Science Charter School campuses. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local special education requirements while supporting special education staff, coordinating Committee on Special Education (CSE) processes, managing student records and reporting, and serving as the primary liaison with school districts and related service providers.

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local special education laws, regulations, and requirements.

Oversee implementation of special education programs and services for middle and high school students.

Serve as the primary point of contact for local school districts regarding special education matters.

Monitor special education caseloads and ensure appropriate service delivery.

Complete and submit all required special education reports, including Child Find, Exit Forms, NYSED PD-6, PD-8, and other state-mandated reports.

Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with confidentiality requirements.

Coordinate and facilitate Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings for Poplar and Medaille campuses.

Manage referrals and Student Intervention Records for Buffalo Public Schools and other referring districts.

Oversee related services coordination and service provider billing.

Manage student caseload assignments and service schedules.

Ensure timely completion and distribution of quarterly progress reports.

Provide instructional coaching and support to special education teachers.

Support the development, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Provide guidance regarding special education best practices, instructional strategies, and compliance requirements.

Plan and facilitate professional development for special education staff.

Collaborate with school administrators and instructional leaders to support student achievement and compliance.

Coordinate middle and high school special education data collection, reporting, and analysis.

Maintain accurate student and caseload records for compliance, billing, and reporting purposes.

Manage special education data required for state reporting and audits.

Calculate Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) funding data and provide information to the Chief Financial Officer as required.

Monitor special education billing and reimbursement processes.
This position serves both the Poplar and Medaille campuses according to the following rotating schedule:
Week 1

Monday–Wednesday: Medaille Campus

Thursday–Friday: Poplar Campus
Week 2

Monday–Tuesday: Medaille Campus

Wednesday–Friday: Poplar Campus
The schedule may be adjusted based on student, staff, and organizational needs.

New York State certification in Special Education and/or School Building Leadership preferred.

Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred.

Minimum of three years of experience in special education administration, coordination, or leadership.

Thorough knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, New York State Special Education Regulations, and CSE processes.

Experience developing and reviewing IEPs.

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Experience with special education compliance reporting, student data systems, and related service coordination preferred.
Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
