JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to…
- Collaborate with the Quality team to effectively run the NDT lab and meet the standard of quality expected of a NADCAP certified facility, including to set up equipment, accept/reject parts, keep acid bath (Nital Etch) and oil bath (MPI) up to date and free from contaminants.
- Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on ferrous components in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
- Conduct Nital Etch inspection to identify heat treatment condition, grinding burns, decarburization and metalogical anomalies.
- Conduct material tests using both Nital Etch inspection as well as Magnetic Particle Inspection to identify material flaws that may affect performance or cause safety issues.
- Perform Surface Temper Etching Inspection (Nital Etch) for parts prior to MPI when applicable.
- Interpret inspection results and determine product acceptability based on engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Set up and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment.
- Establish techniques, processes, and procedures for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations. Ensure all inspections are performed in accordance with established quality procedures and safety regulations.
- Organize and report test results.
- Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection
- Maintain an MPI solution bath within the range of the required concentration between fluorescent particles and carrier oil.
- Review customer specifications and procedures.
- Write certifications for accept/reject disposition of parts.
- work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality personnel to resolve quality concerns.
- Operate and maintain quarterly calibration records for the Oven used post Nital Etching.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe inspection area.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and inspection processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Education beyond high school (Associate’s Degree, Bachelor Degree) OR Quality-related certifications preferred, such as NDT- MPI Certification or Nital Etch Certification strongly preferred.
- At least two (2) years experience with non-destructive testing (NDT). ASNT Level 1 or Level II MPI and Nital Etch certification is strongly preferred. Training may be provided.
- Must be knowledgeable of quality policies/procedures, including AS9100 and NAS 410.
- Must be able to read and interpret work instructions, basic prints and dimensions, engineering drawings, specification and work instructions.
- Basic understanding of heat treatment and processes and metallurgy is preferred.
- Ability to use basic inspection tools such as calipers, scales, micrometers, and other NDT specific equipment strongly preferred.
- Must have prior work experience that required high attention to detail while following customer inspection requirements, both when operating non-destructive testing equipment and reviewing test results, images, and data.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet operational deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must follow safety requirements, including to wear safety glasses, gloves when required and other PPE as directed based on the work.
- Standing, bending and reaching on frequent basis.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally, with assistance.
- Ability to distinguish indications during visual inspections.
