Summer is a season of discovery, joy, and growing in faith together. The Summer Camp Teacher supports Bethel Lutheran Church during Preschool Vacation Bible School by planning and implementing a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate summer camp experience for enrolled children. This short-term position is ideal for an educator who thrives in a hands-on, play-centered environment and enjoys creating flexible, creative programming that keeps young learners active and excited. Through meaningful activities, attentive supervision, and a caring presence, this individual helps children build friendships, explore their world, and experience God’s love in tangible ways while supporting Bethel’s mission to Connect, Grow, and Serve.

Experience working with preschool or elementaryage children (classroom, camp, childcare, or similar setting)

Education or training in early childhood education preferred, but not required

Strong communication skills with children, families, and staff

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and church leadership

Successful completion of background checks as required by Wisconsin licensing and Bethel Highlands Preschool policies
-
Current or willingness to obtain Infant/Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (preferred)

Plan curriculum and a daily camp schedule prior to the start of the camp week

Prepare ageappropriate activities that support social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development

Coordinate activities that align with the overall Vacation Bible School theme when appropriate

Gather, organize, and prepare materials needed for camp activities

Set up and take down daily activities, learning centers, and materials

Supervise and ensure the safety of all students enrolled in the camp at all times

Lead and facilitate structured and unstructured activities including art, movement, games, music, sensory play, and outdoor experiences

Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and activity space
-
Follow all Bethel Highlands Preschool policies and Wisconsin state licensing standards during camp hours

Set up and take down daily activities, learning centers, and materials

Supervise and ensure the safety of all students enrolled in the camp at all times

Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds (including lifting children, activity equipment, and classroom materials)

Ability to bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods of time

Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors

Ability to engage in physical activities such as walking, light running, and participating in games

Nurture children in a loving, faithbased environment
