Duties
- Assist in preparing and serving nutritious meals tailored to residents’ dietary requirements, including special diets for medical conditions or personal preferences
- Follow strict food safety and sanitation protocols to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment in accordance with JCAHO standards and health regulations
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently during meal preparation, ensuring proper handling and storage of food items
- Support the dietary department by bussing tables, cleaning food prep areas, and managing sanitation tasks to uphold high hygiene standards
- Handle manual tasks such as heavy lifting of supplies and safe lifting practices to ensure efficiency and safety during food production
- Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper manual handling techniques
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to accommodate specific dietary needs for geriatric patients or residents with special health considerations
Skills
- Proven experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry with a focus on food production and service
- Strong knowledge of nutrition principles, dietary requirements, and food safety practices including sanitation, cleaning, and proper food handling
- Excellent time management skills to efficiently prepare meals within scheduled times while maintaining quality standards
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively while adhering to all safety protocols including CPR certification if applicable
- Experience working with geriatric patients or individuals with special dietary needs is highly desirable
- Basic math skills for accurate portioning, measurements, and inventory management
- Exceptional customer service skills to interact positively with residents, staff, and visitors while maintaining professionalism
