Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual machining equipment to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in reading blueprints, interpreting mechanical drawings, and utilizing various hand and power tools will ensure the highest quality standards are met. Responsibilities
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Set up and operate manual machining tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines with accuracy and efficiency.
- Use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to verify dimensions and ensure quality control.
- Perform machine setup procedures, including selecting appropriate tooling, adjusting M-code or G-code programs for CNC compatibility when applicable, and calibrating equipment for optimal performance.
- Execute manual machining operations with attention to detail, maintaining tight tolerances and adhering to safety standards.
- Conduct quality inspections of finished parts using measurement tools and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
- Assist in assembly processes by fitting machined components accurately according to specifications.
Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in manual machining techniques.
- Skilled in operating machining tools such as lathes, grinders, mills, and hand tools.
- Familiarity with CNC programming concepts including M-code, G-code programming, and CNC machine setup when necessary.
- Experience with CAD software like Autodesk Inventor and general CAD systems for part design review, preferred not necessary.
- Knowledge of measurement instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and precision measuring instruments for quality control.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations related to measurements and machining tolerances.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes involving metal machining and CNC machining principles.
- Mechanical blueprint interpretation skills combined with an understanding of GD&T standards for precise fabrication.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) techniques is a plus but not required.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot machining issues efficiently.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination using power tools and manual machining equipment safely and effectively.
