Education Specialist- Resource Specialist Teacher

Position Summary
Education Specialist Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
- Being on site on school days from the hours of 8:00am - 3:05pm (30 minute lunch break)
- Monitor IEP due dates for annual and triennial deadlines in order to ensure IEP is scheduled prior to the due date
- Monitor IEP goal progress update due dates in order to ensure service provider gives input in a timely manner
- Drafting IEPs 14 days before an IEP meeting date
- Writing IEPs within a budgeted amount of time
- Writing an IEP for students assigned to me less than 1 week ago
- Writing the following type of IEPs: 30 day, annuals, initials, triennials, progress monitoring and another other type of IEP as assigned
- Administration, scoring and writing reports of formal assessments administered including but not limited to: WIAT & Woodcock Johnson
- Writing an IEP: PLPs in the areas of reading, writing, math, vocational, career and/or college awareness areas
- Writing an IEP: PLPs that include 1-2 paragraph(s) of strengths, 1-2 sentences describing each area of need if a need is identified and an impact of a disability statement if a need is identified describing how the disability impacts the learning in this area.
- Provide updates on IEP goals for progress reports based on a predetermined frequency assigned by school.
- Proposing SMART Goals that are aligned to a grade level state standard and/or area of need that include a baseline and IEP team members
- Proposing Accommodations that are appropriate for the school program and student’s least restrictive environment
- Proposing Specialized Academic Instruction Services for a student’s least restrictive environment
- Attending IEP meeting, presenting draft IEP, and taking notes on what needs to updated in the IEP
- Reviewing and correcting IEP so that the IEP can be affirmed the same day as the IEP meeting
- Creating daily lessons based on designated curriculum approved by the CA Department of Education
- Planning Lessons within a budgeted amount of time before school and afterschool while on site.
- Providing instruction to a class of up to 12 students
- Managing and overseeing paraeducators and 1:1s in regards to behavior management, data collection and academic support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
*Develops educational plans (IEPs) for the purpose of meeting the individual needs of exceptional students and participate in IEP meetings
*Evaluates students for the purpose of identifying student strengths and needs
*Teaches/instructs students for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards the student’s individual goals and objectives through the virtual distance learning platform
*Knowledge and skill to provide instruction in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies based off of California Common Core standards.
*Conduct academic evaluations using standardized, alternative, curriculum-based and informal assessments, and interpret results
*Regularly monitor student progress using data collection; report progress to teachers and parents
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
*Knowledge of K-12 core curriculum content
*Knowledge of a variety of appropriate assessment tools to identify student with special needs in the K-6 setting.
*Knowledge of how to write effective, meaningful SMART goals and objectives within an IEP
*Knowledge of appropriate modifications and/or accommodations and interventions to employ within the classroom setting
*Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to adapt the curriculum to meet student needs
*Knowledge of special education laws, policies and procedures
*Skills to interpret and evaluate assessment data
*Skills to conduct on-going evaluation of student goals and objectives
*Skills to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and techniques used and adjust instruction and delivery as needed
*Ability to work on a daily basis with teachers, parents, and support staff in an effort to develop and maintain teamwork and communication.
*Ability to promote effective interpersonal communication techniques
*Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.
Qualifications
*Bachelor’s Degree, including appropriate coursework in education
*Department of Justice fingerprint clearance
*Minimum three years teaching experience
*Technology skills: proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point; Google Docs, communicate via email
*Access to reliable online/internet access off site
Credentials
*A valid Clear (Level 2) California Special Education (Education Specialist Instruction) Credential, Mild/Moderate
*Possession of either an English Learner Authorization (EL Authorization), Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; or Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC) required.

*Spanish Bilingual preferred
