Position Summary
The journeyman painter will have experience applying paints, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces. The painter must be able to complete large-scale painting projects within deadlines and must be capable of working effectively on their own as well as in a team setting. Local and travel work as needed. Background check and drug test will be conducted prior to start date if considered for the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Applies paints, varnishes, and stains to interior and/or exterior surfaces
- Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, and blowtorch
- Applies specified coats of paint
- Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, and other fillers by using caulk guns and putty knives
- Primes surfaces as necessary
- Follows company standards and adheres to all company policies and procedures with special attention to safety regulations
- Performs all activities in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Utilizes standard paint equipment such as conventional and airless spray equipment, motorized lifts, brushes, rollers, and other related equipment
- Assists in the proper erection of scaffold and ladders
- Works under general supervision
- Disposes of residual materials appropriately
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- 4-5 years of painting experience
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees of an organization
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting to complete daily activities according to work schedule

The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object. Excellent stamina is required. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.
