Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Recertification Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will oversee the recertification process for residents participating in housing assistance programs such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), Section 8, and other supportive housing initiatives. Your expertise will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while providing compassionate support to residents. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping individuals maintain their housing stability through efficient case management, thorough documentation, and proactive communication. You will work closely with residents, landlords, and community partners to facilitate smooth recertification processes and uphold fair housing standards.
Duties
- Manage the entire recertification process for tenants enrolled in housing assistance programs, ensuring timely and accurate submission of documentation.
- Review income verification documents, employment records, and other supporting materials to confirm continued eligibility.
- Conduct outreach to residents via phone, email, or in-person visits to gather necessary information and answer questions about recertification requirements.
- Collaborate with property management teams, landlords, and external agencies to coordinate recertification activities and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
- Maintain detailed records using property management software such as Yardi or OneSite; prepare reports on recertification status and compliance metrics.
- Stay informed about updates in Fair Housing regulations, Section 8 policies, and other relevant housing laws to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Provide crisis intervention and motivational interviewing when working with high-risk populations or individuals facing personal challenges affecting their housing stability.
- Negotiate with landlords or tenants when issues arise related to documentation or eligibility; advocate for fair treatment under Housing assistance programs.
- Support residents with mental health conditions or addiction counseling needs by connecting them with appropriate resources and services.
- Assist in training new team members on recertification procedures and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in case management within social work, housing assistance programs, or property management environments.
- Strong knowledge of Landlord-Tenant Law, Fair Housing regulations, LIHTC, Section 8 policies, and housing assistance programs.
- Excellent negotiation skills coupled with crisis intervention capabilities to support high-risk populations effectively.
- Familiarity with property management software such as Yardi or OneSite; proficiency in data entry and report generation.
- Experience working with individuals from underserved communities or those facing mental health challenges is highly desirable.
- Skilled in motivational interviewing techniques to empower residents toward housing stability and personal growth.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and cultural competence.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for managing multiple recertifications simultaneously.
- Knowledge of addiction counseling principles is a plus but not required; willingness to learn preferred.
