SUMMARY: The Assistant General Manager collaborates with the General Manager and the branch events team to produce trade shows, conventions, complex productions and special events. The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in leading the Event Services department. AGM oversees complex trade shows, conventions, productions, and special events; manages contract execution; supervises Event Services staff; and ensures consistent operational standards across all assigned events. The role includes mentoring employees, supporting branch offices when needed, and maintaining strong relationships with facilities, partners, clients, and internal teams. Additional responsibilities include managing and executing complex contracts from inception to conclusion, possible travel to branch offices to produce events and training and mentoring new and existing employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Operations & Production
· Support the General Manager with event calendar planning, job assignments, and job costing (LCW).
· Participate in the new‑hire process.
· Oversee complex estimates and join Event Services Managers during advanced planning calls.
· Monitor and confirm all event action items, including production schedules, floor plans, exhibitor lists, event hours, contacts, food & beverage requirements, contract execution, and payment status.
· Lead pre‑show audits and onsite audits to ensure accurate data entry and compliance.
· Assist exhibitors and show management with utility planning and layout, often without electrician involvement.
· Oversee service and labor desks during large or sensitive events.
· Maintain and update online event availability for all trade shows.
Technical & Administrative Expertise
· Maintain complete knowledge of EMP and its application to event management duties.
· Understand order forms, contracts, and price maintenance modules; determine appropriate documents for event types and identify when Legal Team involvement is required.
· Maintain thorough knowledge of Edlen electrical equipment, power distribution, and billing.
· Gather, input, and manage complex utility requirements to produce estimates and obtain final approval.
Client, Facility & Partner Relations
· Represent Edlen at planning meetings, site visits, operations meetings, GSC production meetings, pre‑event meetings, and facility/client meetings.
· Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with facilities, partners, clients, customers, and corporate teams.
· Participate in LVHA and travel to branch offices as needed.
People Leadership
· Support the General Manager with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, counseling, training and mentoring.
· Assist the General Manager and General Foreman with electrical team coordination, including staffing needs, scheduling support, and labor cost awareness.
· Monitor employee progress, identify training needs, support development plans, and recognize achievements to reinforce a culture of growth and accountability.
· Assist GM to review and recommend payroll and time‑off approvals in Paycom; provide oversight and ensure accuracy for both union and non‑union staff.
· Provide clear direction, set expectations, and ensure consistent adherence to procedures and deadlines.
· Coach and mentor employees, identify skill gaps, and support ongoing development.
· Train staff in event production, EMP, utility planning, workflow standards, and customer communication.
· Resolve conflict professionally and maintain strong working relationships with staff, clients, and partners.
· Demonstrate calm, confident leadership during high‑pressure events and guide the team through complex operations.
· Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and corrective action discussions with accurate, defensible documentation.
· Manage, cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with personnel at every level within the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Minimum five years of related events, production, or convention services experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Competencies
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to interpret procedure manuals, work instructions, and software documentation.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and event‑related software systems.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced convention center, hotel, or fairground environment.
· Strong reasoning skills and ability to troubleshoot issues involving multiple variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
· Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally using proper lifting techniques.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Work may occur in office environments, convention centers, hotels, or fairgrounds.
· Occasional exposure to hot or cold temperatures depending on event location.
HOURS, TRAVEL and TRANSPORTATION
· Early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
· Schedules may change with little or no notice due to event demands.
· Travel is required based on business needs.
· Reliable transportation is required to attend events at multiple locations in the market.
