Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques.
- Monitor and record vital signs, observe patient conditions, and report changes promptly to nursing staff to ensure optimal care.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Provide specialized care for patients with complex needs such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or those requiring memory or hospice care.
- Facilitate safe patient transfers using appropriate techniques and equipment; assist with medical procedures like catheter care or phlebotomy when trained.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols, especially in high-acuity areas like ICU or trauma centers.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within medical documentation systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.
Skills
- Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments including long-term care facilities, hospitals (including trauma centers), outpatient clinics, or home care settings.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) procedures such as CPR.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and adhere to safe lifting practices during patient transfers or mobility assistance.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams; experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges is a plus.
- Knowledge of infection control practices including aseptic technique and infectious disease care protocols.
- Certification as a CNA is required; additional certifications such as Phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
