We at the Carolina Federation have current employment opportunities across the state for the role of Community Canvasser. The schedule is flexible, our offices will generally be open every day of the week, and both part-time and full-time openings are available. The primary role of this job is to be out in the public and on your feet, engaging with residents about the upcoming November election, and to record the data you collect in real time on a company-provided electronic device. This is a straight-forward job, it can be extremely rewarding, and it requires a lot of physical effort and mental energy. You will receive training daily, no experience is required, and there are no formal education requirements. Folks from all walks of life are welcomed to apply. This job is a great path for anyone wanting to break into paid political work and potentially launch a new career.
Community Canvassers report to a regional canvassing office every day, where they will be managed by a Regional Engagement Manager. Carolina Federation provides the equipment, technology, transportation and supplies needed for you to do the job.
Availability
If you are interested and available to work 5 shifts per week on a regular basis, now through November, you are encouraged to apply.
Part time employment is considered working 3 shifts per week and will be available in late summer
Please note that both part-time and full-time personnel must work entire shifts. You and your teammates will always be treated equally. Therefore, there are no partial shifts, late arrivals or early departures, per company policies.
Requirements
- North Carolina resident, 18 & over, that can provide proof of your up to date COVID-19 vaccination status
- Comfortable working alone and unsupervised in public, with a company-provided cell phone
- Being outside in neighborhoods in various weather conditions, temperatures, navigating porch steps, hills, etc
- Walking multiple miles per day and being on your feet for 6 or more hours per day
- Having a knack for talking to people, and an ability to make people feel comfortable talking to you
- Comfortable learning about and discussing the serious issues facing voters in North Carolina in November
- Being on time. Always arriving early enough to be ready to work when the shift begins.
- Doing your best work and being someone always striving for personal development and excellence
- Available to consistently work at least five (full) shifts per week (11am - 7pm)
- Recording all data that you collect in real-time, using company-provided devices
- Consistently meeting and exceeding the minimum average performance standards
- Possessing the ability to ‘stay on script’ and to consistently deliver the key talking points
Benefits, Perks and Compensation
- New hires start at the rate of $22 per hour, with the chance for promotion, to make up to $24 per hour
- Drivers are promoted and are paid an additional $20 per day.
- We provide ongoing mentoring and leadership development for candidates interested, including help with future job placements and a positive professional reference letter for those that complete the campaign in good standing.
- Weekly staff meals. Snacks, refreshments, work phone and on-the-clock transportation provided daily.
- Possibility to be extended, re-hired for future projects or to be hired by other parts of the Carolina Federation
