American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III Perinatal Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-risk L&D experience and active WI or compact RN licensure.

13-week contract at a 228-bed teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI
-
Level III Perinatal Center and Accreta Center of Excellence, also designated as a Level III NICU and Level IV Trauma Center
-
Labor & Delivery unit with 20 beds serving high-risk mothers and newborns
-
Patient population includes high-risk pregnancies involving placenta accreta, pre-eclampsia, massive transfusions, tubal ligation, cerclage, hysterectomies, COVID, and surgical recovery
-
Patient ratios follow AWHONN staffing guidelines: 1:1–2 for active labor, 1:3 for antepartum
-
12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930, 36 hours per week

Schedule is open availability, 7 days per week; block or patterned scheduling not guaranteed

Every other weekend rotation required
-
No on-call responsibility, but must be available for call-back if census is low

Floating required (travelers float first) to Postpartum and Women's Care Center (inpatient unit for non-pregnant women who have had procedures)

Charting via Epic; also uses Alaris, Pyxis, fetal monitoring systems, and epidural pumps

Active WI or compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and FHM

Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required, with Level III Perinatal Care experience mandatory — no exceptions

Most recent experience must be within the last year

Proficiency in fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, high-risk newborn and maternal post-delivery care, cervical exams for labor progression, OB triage, primary nursing for vaginal deliveries, assisting with C-section circulation (as secondary nurse only), post-partum care, and L&D recoveries

At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration

Provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care for high-risk mothers and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, and recovery continuum
-
Knowledgeable support for complex procedures including placenta accreta cases, hysterectomies, cerclage, tubal ligation, and massive transfusion protocols; serves as secondary circulating nurse for C-sections but does not serve as primary circulating nurse for C-sections

Unit support includes a charge nurse, Clinical Resource Nurse, phlebotomy (shared with RN), RT, house supervisor, certified nurse midwives, OB/GYN providers, and OB anesthesia — all available onsite 24/7

Facility performs fit-testing for PPE; single-use PPE provided, with CAPR/PAPR available

Scrubs are provided by the facility

Orientation begins with a meeting with the nurse manager for onboarding, followed by unit training, preceptor days, and then an independent patient assignment with a work buddy
