As part of the Fabrication Shop, the Press Brake Operator operates a press brake to manufacture tools, equipment and other components from sheet metal or metal plates. This includes the preparation, setup, and adjustment of the press brake as required by product plans and production schedules. This role also ensures there is sufficient raw material available to complete the assigned tasks.

Run bend and forming operations using standard and custom punches.

Measures and aligns materials to be used.

Inspects products, evaluating finished pieces for compliance with quality standards and specifications.

Performs routine maintenance on the press brake.

Maintains a clean work area.
-
Use a CNC controller to input information into machine.
-
Adjust ram and back gauge locations per process control instructions and blueprints.
-
Checks height, depth and thickness using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges and other precision-measuring instruments.

Work with tight tolerances.

Produce parts for assembly operations.

Meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.

Perform spot inspections of parts.
-
Perform all required routine and minor maintenance activities according to procedures.

Complete and maintain paperwork.

Identify assembly parts.

Set up light gauge metal.
-
Check machine for defects.
-
Ensure machine is calibrated and cleaned.

Read drawings and blueprints.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities for Advanced Operator

Perform complex programming using all features of the press brake.

Program the CNC to produce new parts meeting specifications.

Configure bend allowances for sheet metal (stainless, aluminum & regular steel).

Repair machinery, if necessary

Ability to safely and effectively operate or learn to operate press brake controls.

Ability to follow instructions.

Ability to read, interpret, and follow product plans.

Basic computer and math skills.

Computer skills and knowledge of data entry programs.

Qualifications Requirements
Education and / or experience
-
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- 1 – 3 years of experience in metal fabrication or related work preferred.

Proven experience with light curtain operation
