Our client, a well‑established hospital system, is seeking an experienced Assistant Supervisor, Laboratory to provide operational and technical leadership for the clinical laboratory team. This position is ideal for a licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist with strong leadership abilities, quality assurance expertise, and a passion for supporting high-quality patient care. Working closely with laboratory leadership, the Assistant Supervisor will oversee daily operations, staff development, regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, and laboratory performance.
The Assistant Supervisor, Laboratory is responsible for supporting the supervision of laboratory operations while ensuring quality testing, regulatory compliance, staff competency, and operational efficiency. This role serves as both a technical expert and people leader, overseeing laboratory personnel, quality control processes, equipment performance, workflow management, and departmental objectives. The Assistant Supervisor also performs bench testing as needed and plays a key role in maintaining accreditation standards and delivering exceptional patient service.
Job Function:
- Supervise daily laboratory operations and testing activities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards
- Oversee quality control, quality assurance, and testing accuracy
- Train, mentor, and assess staff competency and performance
- Perform bench testing and provide technical support as needed
- Troubleshoot equipment, testing, and workflow issues
- Monitor turnaround times and laboratory performance metrics
- Manage inventory, supplies, and vendor relationships
- Assist with hiring, payroll, scheduling, and departmental administration
- Support process improvement initiatives and departmental goals
- Escalate quality, compliance, and operational concerns to leadership
- Participate in performance improvement, education, and special projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science required
- Minimum 4–6 years of relevant hospital laboratory experience required
- Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or leading laboratory staff preferred
- Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Experience troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and testing systems
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and laboratory software applications
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (CLAB) required
- ASCP Certification preferred
- NCA Certification preferred
