The Recruiter, Culinary and Food & Beverage owns full-cycle recruiting for the highest-volume discipline in the BHC portfolio. This role is responsible for culinary and F&B hires across all properties, from line cook to guest room dining supervisor, from barista to sommelier. The scope is portfolio-wide: the Recruiter must know each BHC property and concept well enough to place candidates with genuine judgment about fit, not just qualification.
This is a pipeline role as much as a search role. The relationships built between open requisitions, the sourcing partnerships maintained with culinary schools and hospitality programs, and the candidates already in conversation before the seat opens are what determine whether BHC moves fast and smart when it needs to or starts from scratch every time. The Recruiter’s assessment carries significant weight in every hiring decision across this discipline, and the expectation is that weight is earned through candor, market knowledge, and a real point of view on talent.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Talent Assessment and Hiring Standards
Evaluate every candidate who enters consideration for a culinary or F&B role at BHC, providing candid recommendations and maintaining hiring standards across the portfolio.
Develop and apply a clear point of view on what quality looks like at each level and each property. The energy Sorelle requires and the precision The Cooper demands are different things, even when the title is the same.
Conduct structured intake conversations with hiring managers before each search begins, calibrating on profile, pace, and priorities so the search is right from day one.
Provide honest, informed counsel to hiring managers on candidate quality, including when the profile requested is not the profile needed.
Pipeline Development and Sourcing
Maintain active sourcing relationships with culinary schools, hospitality programs, and community organizations. The pipeline should be warm before the need is urgent.
Direct-source passive candidates through networking, referrals, industry events, social platforms, and competitive talent mapping.
Build and maintain talent communities for future culinary and F&B opportunities, ensuring ongoing outreach activity even when requisition volume is low.
Maintain current knowledge of the Charleston culinary market: which kitchens are developing talent, which are losing it, and what is driving mobility.
Candidate Experience and Brand Representation
Own the candidate experience from first contact through offer, including candidates who do not receive the role. How BHC treats people who do not join is part of the organization’s reputation in the market.
Serve as an ambassador for the BHC brand, ensuring candidates leave every interaction with a clear understanding of the culture, standards, and opportunities across the portfolio.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Workday throughout every search. Every conversation, signal, and candidate update lives in the system.
Operational Accountability and Stakeholder Partnership
Own accountability for time-to-fill, candidate conversion rates, hiring manager satisfaction, offer acceptance rates, and quality and retention of hires.
Run multiple searches at different levels simultaneously without losing quality or candidate experience in any of them.
Build trusted relationships with chefs, restaurant leaders, and hotel operators across the portfolio, consulting on labor market conditions, candidate availability, compensation trends, and talent strategy.
Participate in workforce planning discussions and proactively identify talent risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
Travel regularly between BHC properties, schools, community organizations, and recruiting events. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of three years of full-cycle, high-volume recruiting experience with significant responsibility for hospitality, culinary, food and beverage, or operational hiring environments.
Demonstrable knowledge of the culinary and F&B talent market: career structures, compensation norms, key feeder institutions, and what drives mobility.
Demonstrated success sourcing passive candidates and building talent pipelines in competitive labor markets.
Proficiency in behavioral interviewing, talent assessment, candidate calibration, and structured search methodology.
Experience with Workday or comparable applicant tracking systems, with the discipline to maintain pipeline data accurately.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the credibility to engage candidates and hiring managers from line cook to executive chef.
Conversational Spanish skills highly preferred for engaging with a diverse talent pool.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Hospitality, Food and Beverage Management, or a related field preferred.
Experience in luxury or fine dining hospitality preferred. Experience working at any standard where quality was genuinely non-negotiable is what matters more.
