Smejkal & Elm, P.C. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our team in Columbus, Nebraska. We are a Certified Public Accountant firm that has been serving the Columbus area for over sixty years. We provide a wide range of professional services to our clients, including tax planning, tax preparation for all entity types, bookkeeping, payroll, financial statement preparation, and accounting services.
As a Tax Accountant, you will work closely with partners, staff, and clients to prepare accurate tax returns, provide exceptional client service, and assist with a variety of accounting and tax-related projects.
Some of the applicant duties will include:
- Prepare individual, partnership, corporate, fiduciary, nonprofit, and other tax returns accurately and efficiently.
- Review client financial information and supporting documentation to ensure complete and accurate tax filings.
- Meet with clients to gather information, answer tax-related questions, and discuss tax planning opportunities.
- Perform tax planning and research to identify opportunities and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Prepare and review financial statements and assist with bookkeeping and accounting projects as needed.
- Communicate with clients regarding missing information, tax notices, and filing requirements.
- Maintain accurate electronic client files and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with partners and staff to meet filing deadlines and provide high-quality client service.
- Stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards through continuing education and professional development.
- Assist with additional accounting, tax, and administrative projects as assigned.
Seeking an applicant with:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential preferred, but not required.
- Previous tax preparation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of federal and state income tax laws.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; experience with professional tax software is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
