Position Overview
Weld-Done Welding is a family owned and operated structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication company serving the New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas for over 40 years.
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager / Estimator to manage steel fabrication and erection projects from bid review through project completion. This role is responsible for preparing accurate estimates, coordinating project schedules, managing documentation, supporting material procurement, and serving as a key point of contact for customers, vendors, detailers, engineers, shop personnel, and field teams.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, construction drawings, estimating, project coordination, and customer communication. This is a hands-on position for someone who can balance estimating accuracy with project execution, schedule management, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities
· Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and scope requirements for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects.
· Prepare detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid proposals.
· Manage awarded projects from kickoff through closeout, including scheduling, documentation, procurement, fabrication coordination, delivery, and customer communication.
· Coordinate with detailers, engineers, architects, general contractors, vendors, shop supervision, and field crews to resolve questions and maintain project progress.
· Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, change orders, purchase orders, project schedules, and closeout documentation.
· Monitor project costs, labor usage, material status, and schedule performance to help ensure profitability and timely completion.
· Communicate project updates, risks, schedule changes, and cost impacts to management and customers.
· Maintain organized project records, estimating files, bid summaries, assumptions, clarifications, and historical cost information.
· Support quality, safety, and continuous improvement efforts throughout estimating, fabrication, and project delivery.
Required Qualifications
· Experience in structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, construction estimating, and/or project management.
· Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
· Knowledge of steel materials, fabrication processes, connection details, coatings, erection practices, and construction sequencing.
· Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage multiple bids and projects while meeting deadlines.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
· High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, quality, and customer service.
· Light lifting to 25lbs for office supplies and materials.
Preferred Qualifications
· Three or more years of experience estimating or managing structural steel fabrication and/or in the construction industry.
· Familiarity with AISC standards, AWS welding requirements, and common industry practices.
· Experience coordinating with fabrication shops, steel erectors, general contractors, architects, engineers, and inspection teams.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based with regular coordination with shop personnel, vendors, customers, and field teams. Occasional shop and jobsite visits may be required. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage changing priorities, and meet bid and project deadlines.
