Job Title: Program Director
Reports to: Director of COMPASS Programs
Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP) seeks a full-time Program Director to lead its DYCD-funded Compass middle school program. The Program Director oversees daily site operations, ensuring after-school programming aligns with school-day learning and supports youth development. Responsibilities include supervising staff, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, and promoting participants' social, emotional, and physical well-being. The Program Director designs engaging activities that reflect youth interests and create meaningful opportunities for exploration, growth, and academic enrichment.
The Program Director participates in ongoing professional development and contributes to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations, create and implement age-appropriate educational, SEL, and recreational activities, and ensure program goals are met.
- Manage student recruitment, enrollment, and attendance; facilitate communication and build strong relationships with parents, families, and school personnel.
- Participate in staff recruitment and hiring process; supervise program staff, provide coaching, and motivation to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Collaborate with school administrators, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to support program initiatives and events.
- In collaboration with the Director of Compass Programs and the Content Specialist, design and implement engaging activities that promote youth social, emotional, and physical well-being and complement school-day learning.
- Maintain up-to-date SACC training certifications and provide documentation upon request.
- Maintain participant records and files in a safe file cabinet
- Recruit and retain participants according to grant requirements
- Collaborate with the school’s Social Worker or Mental Health staff to develop and implement a Crisis Navigation Plan (template provided).
- Serve as the Inclusion Coordinator, assisting participants, families, and staff in identifying and accessing resources and supports, including those available through DYCD, to address special needs.
- Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, and overall direction for their academic and SEL growth.
- Periodically review staff files to ensure full compliance with NYC DOE, DOHMH, DYCD, and NYS SACC requirements, and ensure adherence to all applicable regulations.
- Communicate program needs and share feedback with the Leadership Team
- Monitor and ensure DYCD Connect is updated weekly.
- Lead weekly team meetings with staff to discuss performance, challenges, and provide feedback and coaching.
- Report accurate staff hours by reviewing and signing off on every staff timesheet.
- Attend weekly check-ins with supervisor and participate in ongoing professional development provided by BCCP and DYCD’s professional development partners.
- Develop and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Plan and provide formal orientation for all participants and their families.
- Conduct formal staff evaluations to assess performance and guide professional growth.
- Carry out additional duties as needed to support the evolving needs of the program.
Qualifications
- An associate degree (bachelor’s preferred) in child development, elementary education, physical education, or a related field, plus 2 years of direct experience working with children under 13, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role within a childcare or comparable program; or
- A NYS Children’s Program Administrator Credential and 2 years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work; or
- School-Age Child Care (SACC) Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period and 2 years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work; or
- 2 years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field; and 2 years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, high interest in the arts, youth development, and community service.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel.
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM

Pay: $62,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
